Synopsis

Dreaming under Capitalism

Film program: “Dreaming under Capitalism“, Sophie Bruneau Belgium / 2017 / 63’ film selection by Kumjana Novakva

Twelve people recount and then interpret their memory of a dream about work. These mistreated souls describe, in a poetic and political way, their subjective suffering at work. Bit by bit, the dreamers and their dreams portray a world dominated by neoliberal capitalism. The film is a co production between Alter ego films, Michigan Films, RTBF, ARTE G.E.I.E., CBA, Fresnoy, and supported by Centre du cinéma et de l’audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, VAF and the Scam. Sophie Bruneau is an anthropologist, documentarist and a researcher on the Institute of Sociology at the University Libre, Belgium. She has won many awards, amongst them the award of the best documentary movie in the Bilbao short and documentary film festival.

Kumjana Novakova works in the field of creative documentary cinema and audiovisual arts since 2006. She is the cofounder of the Pravo Ljudski Film Festival in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She develops projects between cinema and contemporary art, mostly exploring the interplay between identities, memories and the collective self. The screening will be followed by a discussion.
