Coalition MARGINI announces a call for participation in a course on ecofeminism

We are forwarding the call for PARTICIPANTS IN THE ECOFEMINIST DISCOURSES AND ART PRACTICES COURSE to our friends from MARGINI and we encourage you to apply!

One of the most common stereotypes about planet Earth – even by environmentalists – is its representation as "Mother Nature". Questions of why this is so are central to the thinking of ecofeminists. Ecofeminists often associate the exploitation of nature with the oppression of women. In addition, ecofeminists often see technology and overcoming "natural" limits as key to feminist emancipation. Through this course we want to open up questions about the relationships between nature, technology, femininity, exploitation and humanity in general through different discourses. How should we understand the relationship between gender, nature, technology and oppression?

The course on Ecofeminist Discourses and Art Practices aims to increase the knowledge of the participants of the school about ecofeminism, feminist ecology and environmental philosophy for the human environment (environmental philosophy), as well as to develop the capacities for contextualizing the practices of women's visual art. Throughout the course, the initiatives of women artists will be considered who set ecofeminism as a critical framework that, in addition to offering ecological awareness, also aims to deconstruct the wrong assumptions about ecology that persist in the stereotypical and patriarchal, hierarchical and trivial understanding of the role of the woman in the spheres of creativity and productivity that have long dominated artistic discourses.

Within the framework of the School, the participants will have the opportunity to follow lectures and a workshop by prof. Susana Milevska. Susana Milevska is a curator and theorist of art and visual culture. In her theoretical research she uses a postcolonial and feminist institutional critique of representational regimes of hegemonic power in art and visual culture and deconstruction and decolonization of contested cultural legacies in art institutions, collections and public spaces.

The course will be held in Skopje and it includes:
